Wisdom From The Wheel: Stellar Nursery

Updated: Aug 2, 2021

As-Salaam Alaikum Family

The image above is the 1995 photo from the Hubble telescope of a stellar nursery in the Eagle Nebula. It is the most detailed photo of the nebula first discovered in 1745 by Swiss astronomer Jean-Phillippe Loys de Cheseaux. This stunning photo is of cosmic dust and gas in an active star-forming region with its new stars within those tall gaseous formations called the "pillars of creation". Stars are formed from the cosmic dust and gas that collapse as the result of gravity. It takes about one million years for a star to form and shine like the sun in our own universe.

When I think of all the new citizens of the Nation of Islam, I am reminded that each and every new citizen is like a star just born within our own "pillars of creation" we call mosques and study groups. Our mosques and study groups are also known as hospitals and most hospitals have nurseries for the newborns that are born within its walls. Depending on the size and function of the hospital, there are at least three levels and sometimes several sublevels. Nurses are deployed to care for the newborns according to their physical needs. Those in a level one are considered well-baby nurseries because they need just a little more care than the care that they would receive by rooming-in with their mothers. For the most part, our newborn stars need very little care and can be brought along by the ones that helped them obtain their citizenship. Once they obtain citizenship, they are encouraged to help.

New citizens may help in different ways. We have nine ministries which are like departments within the government. You may obtain more information by "googling" the official website of the Nation of Islam, the nine ministries.

At this time, if you are currently a resident of #48's newborn stellar nursery and have an interest, a gift, talent, skill or experience that can enhance the quality of a ministry, you will be welcome to join. An entry level leadership position such as squad leader may take a little experience, but it is well worth the try. Make an appointment with your student minister or brother/sister captain to discuss how you would like to help.

Coaching Tips

1. If you are unsure of your gifts and talents, ask Allah to direct you then listen to him and follow his instructions; after all he created you in your mother's womb.

2. when you visit your student minister or student brother/sister captain, take your resume or at least a list of short term and long term goals, your gifts, talents, skills and experience then explain what you would love to do with them to help. If you learned something during incarceration, include that too.

3. Do not be afraid to ask questions or submit ideas. Your questions and ideas are what help move the Nation forward! If you become discouraged, please tell someone you may trust such as the student minister or brother/sister captain or student first officer. They can be helpful in times of uncertainty. Believe me, someone has been in your shoes and with help, you can walk right out of uncertainty to a place where you will be able to share the best of what Allah put in you.
